And now for a public service announcement (that is non-book related):
Got a phone call today from some guy claiming to be from "Microsoft," who says that my computer is generating some type of tech error that needs to be fixed. He then tells me that my security system is not working and that a hacker is using my email account, and that he will need to access to my computer to fix it.
When I press him further on who exactly he is, he then tells me that he is from a company called Fix By Tech (no relation to Microsoft). I do a quick search and some scam warnings come up.
Apparently what these guys do is take over your computer, "fix" the so-called "error" and then charge hundreds of dollars. Apparently, if you do not pay the money various bad things can happen.
I also checked my security system and my email account and everything was fine. When I confronted the caller on this he became very defensive (in a thick east Indian accent). After hanging up I alerted the FTC.
