I have always been skeptical of such a creature, although I must admit that the more informed that I get about the topic the more I realize that it is not something that deserves to be mocked. What I discovered is that not all of the sightings can be attributed to bears or men in costumes. Something else appears to be going on.
Consider the following video, for example, in which it is shown that the proportions of a human being do not fit into the proportions of the famous Patterson-Gimlin film creature:
